To help protect the financial well-being of your loved ones, Inova provides basic life and AD&D insurance for team members — at no cost to you — along with the opportunity to purchase supplemental and dependent coverage.

Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance Plans

Basic Life and AD&D Insurance

Inova provides company-paid team member life and AD&D insurance coverage of a specific amount that lasts throughout your employment.

Supplemental Life and AD&D Insurance for You

If you want more than basic coverage, you can buy supplemental life and AD&D insurance for yourself.

Dependent Life Insurance

Your spouse/domestic partner and children up to age 19 are eligible for dependent life insurance.

Be sure to name a beneficiary

It’s important to designate a beneficiary to receive the benefit paid by a life insurance policy. As personal circumstances change, take the time to keep that information up to date. Visit the Inova Benefits Center website to add or change a beneficiary.

 

Basic Life and AD&D Insurance

Inova provides basic life insurance to assist you and your family in the event of a death or dismemberment. These benefits are fully paid by the company and coverage is automatic — you do not need to enroll.

Benefits are equal to:

  • Full-time: 1x base pay (up to $500,000)
  • Part-time: ½ x base pay (up to $50,000)
 

Supplemental Life and AD&D Insurance for You

If you want more financial protection beyond the basic coverage that Inova provides, you can buy supplemental life insurance for yourself. You can enroll on the Inova Benefits Center website as a new hire or if you have a qualifying life event up to the guarantee issue without Evidence of Insurability. You may also enroll or increase coverage at any time but Evidence of Insurability may be required. You pay the full cost of this coverage, which is provided through The Hartford. You must be actively at work for any increases in coverage to take effect.

You may elect supplemental life coverage for yourself in the following amounts:

  • Full-time: 1–8 x base pay, rounded down to nearest $1,000 (up to $1,500,000 combined basic and supplemental maximum)
  • Part-time: 1–8 x base pay, rounded down to nearest $1,000 (up to $300,000 combined basic and supplemental maximum)

Note: Coverage amounts and maximums apply separately to life and AD&D insurance.

 

Coverage Calculation

Your life and disability insurance coverage amounts, and premium payroll deductions are fixed throughout the year and do not change if your salary or age changes during the year.

Your salary as of the first Monday in October of the previous calendar year is used to calculate your coverage amounts and premium payroll deductions; e.g., your 2024 coverages are calculated using your salary as of October 2, 2023.

Your age as of January 1 of the current year is used to determine your age bracket and to calculate your premium deductions.

 

Dependent Life Insurance

You may elect life insurance for your spouse or domestic partner in the following amounts:

  • Full-time: $25,000 – $250,000 in increments of $25,000
  • Part-time: $10,000

Spouse coverage cannot exceed team member coverage.

You may elect child life insurance in the following amounts:

  • Full-time/part-time: $10,000
Evidence of insurability

Supplemental life insurance for you and/or your spouse/domestic partner may require evidence of insurability (EOI). Your benefit confirmation statement will reflect if EOI is required. The Hartford reviews the EOI submission prior to approving your supplemental life insurance amount.

 

Business Travel Accident Insurance

Should an accident occur when you are traveling on behalf of the company, you are protected under a company-paid business travel accident insurance policy. This policy through Cigna provides coverage for certain injuries or death resulting from an accident during business travel.

You are covered up to $100,000 if you are full-time, and up to $50,000 if you are part-time. Coverage is automatic — you do not need to enroll, and there is no cost to you.
